"Every Gun Control Proposal is an occasion for pitched battle with the stakes portrayed as nothing less than the future of life, liberty, & justice."

The Good

The Statutes of Gun Control made an impact on America throughout the late 20th century ever since Lyndon B. Johnson signed the first gun control act in 1968. Laws like the Brady Act of 1993 have built on other similar acts out of incentive response to certain tragedies. In fact, NRA member Ronald Reagan endorsed the Brady act after surviving an assassination attempt. The laws that predated mass shootings have provided law officials necessary alternatives to seek out, devise, and make compromise on current gun issues.

National Firearms Act 1934

This law enacted a tax on the production and transport of firearms in addition to a  special tax on persons and entities who deal in the importation and manufacture in NFA firearms. The law also required the regulation of all NFA weapons with the Secretary of the Treasury.

Gun Control Act 1968

The law outlawed sales to convicted criminals, drug addicts, minors and individuals with a mental illness. It also restricted out-of-state and mail-order gun orders. The act altered weapons imported, including cheap, small handguns used frequently.

Brady Act 1993

The act imposed a waiting period of 5 days before a regulated importer, manufacturer, or supplier may deal handguns with an unlicensed individual. The period applies only in states without an alternate system of processing background checks on buyers.

Assault Rifle Ban 1994

The law banned 18 specific assault weapons, as well as any firearms containing a military-style feature, such as the bayonet mount, a flash suppressor or a folding stock. It also restricted high-capacity magazines that can hold more than 10 bullets. It allowed individuals already in possession of such weapons to keep them.

Pro Gun Control: About

Battling the Black Market

The underground resources that counter gun laws

The primary reason governments and law enforcement address gun control involves the underground business that makes illegal gun transactions with individuals. The base of operations os non-centralized yet illegal guns manage to find a way into strict gun law cities like Chicago. Lawmakers, law enforcement, and gun manufacturers should further evaluate the loopholes in the system to propose potential bills to counter such activities.

Secondary Market

Suppliers can meet demand through familial exchanges or cheaper transactions off the record.

"My Son was a Columbine Shooter. This is my Story."

Sue Klebold is the mother Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine shooters. She tells not only her story after the tragedy but also teaches the importance behind gun control.

Modern War on Guns

The rising movement to limit gun ownership and sales has found itself a voice on capitol hill. Take Florida for example, Republican governor Rick Scott proposed a legislation plan to raise the legal age to purchase and assign law enforcement officials in schools. Both sides of bi-partisan system are even collaborating together on compromises to benefit and procure our country's welfare. Republican Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona and Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein of California are working together to pass a bipartisan bill to also institute the minimum age of 21.

Dr. Christopher Slobogin

“These red-flag laws are a possible solution because they’re an intermediate step between doing nothing and trying to involuntarily hospitalize an individual.”
